Personal Quotes

My favorite subject was English or creative writing. We did poems and making a magazine and I did one on celebrities. I called it Celebrity Life Magazine. I interviewed my good friend Kaley Cuoco.
I love Christmas, not just because of the presents but because of all the decorations and lights and the warmth of the season.
I'm happy that i was able to experience a normal life besides show business, because it gives you something to draw from.
My agent didn't want me on Disney because I'm older. But honestly, I'm not ready for older roles yet, or even the things older girls do. I am still young.
I love change, and I love changing my hair. But it was strange to look in the mirror and think 'Who is this girl?'
I loved my long brown curls, but most mean girls look like this, don't they?...The blond thing...it's the stereotype of a popular mean girl.
I feel like people expect a lot out of girls, like you're supposed to know who you are and what you want out of life right now. Some girls know. I did. But lots of people don't know. You have to try a lot of things and not worry about what people are thinking. Fans might think I'm mean or shallow, like Sharpay, in real life, but I don't care. The mean girl is in every school. People relate to her even if they don't like her.
I helped put together Sharpay's look, and I wanted it to be over-the-top, flashy, attention-getting, because that's her. But she has a heart. You never know what someone is about. People look at me and think I'm a young teen. I'm 21!
I moved from New Jersey to California, so I know what it feels like being the new girl trying to figure it all out. There was this girl in the popular group who was jealous of me, even though I bought my own clothes and car-my parents didn't give them to me. I never told people in school I was an actress. I am a girl, and acting is my job.
The best thing that could happen is people get to see me as the smart and nice girl again, not as the mean or ditsy character. Hollywood makes brainiac girls sort of plain but, in High School Musical (2006) (TV), they're gorgeous. I'm glad girls get to see that it's not one or the other. They get to see that they can be pretty and smart...There's a saying - 'I have the looks but I don't have the books' - that captures the whole idea of expectations, especially in high school. You can be plain and smart, or pretty and smart. You can even be plain and dumb! You just have to be yourself. What do people see when they see me? I'm comfortable with myself, so I really don't care. People seem surprised to discover that I worked hard to be here.
You never know what's going to be big. It's the fans. It was just a Disney Channel Movie and the kids made it huge... For High School Musical 2 (2007) (TV), we just wanted to have fun and make something together (On High School Musical (2006) (TV)).
In real life, I'm shy. I never played a mean girl before. (On playing Sharpay, in High School Musical (2006) (TV)).
I'm not into clubbing. I want to be known for my work.
I didn't do this because I believe in plastic surgery. I did this to help my health. I literally almost could not breathe out of the right side of my nose. I want my fans to know the truth. I'm not someone who is going to act like I had nothing done. I just want to be honest because my fans are everything to me.
Where Are They Now

Early life and career beginnings
Tisdale was born in Monmouth County, New Jersey on July 2, 1985,[2] to Lisa (née Morris) and Mike Tisdale, who run a construction company.[6] She grew up in Ocean Township.[7] While her elder sister, Jennifer Tisdale, is also an actress and model, her maternal grandfather, Arnold Morris, developed the Ginsu Knives; through her grandfather, she is also related to businessman Ron Popeil.[8] Tisdale is Jewish.[9][10]

At the age of three, Tisdale was discovered by Bill Perlman, her current manager, at South Shores Mall.[2] On her first audition, Tisdale landed a JC Penney spot and went on to appear in more than 100 commercials as a kid.[1] At the age of eight, she was cast in a leading role in the Broadway musical, Les Misérables, and later toured internationally with the cast of Annie.[1] She began her acting career by appearing in Gypsy: A Musical Fable and The Sound of Music at the Jewish Community Center of Monmouth County.[1][11] At age twelve, Tisdale sang for American President Bill Clinton in the White House.[1]

Tisdale was a Ford Model.[12] During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Tisdale made minor appearances on several television series such as George Lopez, Smart Guy, 7th Heaven, Strong Medicine and Bette, where she co-starred with Brenda Song for the first time. For her role in Boston Public she received a 2000 Young Artist Award nomination for "best guest performance in a TV drama".[13] Tisdale had a voice role in the 1998 animated movie A Bug's Life, and a minor role in the 2001 film Donnie Darko. She had recurring roles on The Hughleys in 2002 and Still Standing in 2003.[1]

Recording and film career

2004-2006: Fame rise and career development
In 2004, Tisdale was cast the role of Maddie Fitzpatrick on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody after auditioning for the roles of Maddie Fitzpatrick and London Tipton.[14] She also appeared in Whisper of the Heart, the English-language version of the Japanese animated feature, Mimi wo Sumaseba. Tisdale was soon cast as Sharpay Evans in Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical. Tisdale's role required her to perform several songs on the soundtrack. All the songs charted on the Billboard Hot 100.[15] Tisdale made music history by becoming the first female artist ever to debut with two songs simultaneously on the "Hot 100" with "What I've Been Looking For" and "Bop to the Top".[2] The soundtrack became the top-selling album of 2006.[16] Tisdale also appeared in the Disney Channel Games 2006.

In December 2006, prior to the release of her debut album, she released a three-song EP, He Said She Said EP to promote the album.[17] Tisdale also launched a tour with the cast of High School Musical, performing songs from the soundtrack and songs from her debut album. In 2007, a DVD and a live album called High School Musical: The Concert was released featuring Tisdale's songs.
2007-2008: Headstrong and acting roles

In February 2007, Tisdale released her first solo album, Headstrong which was distributed by Warner Bros Records.[18] The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 album charts, selling 64,000 copies.[18] Tisdale described Headstrong as a chance for her fans to get to know her better. "I want people to know that I’m a real person, and that I’ve been through normal situations, like crushes and heartbreaks.", said Tisdale.[19] "Be Good to Me" was released as the first single from the album in fall 2006 and "He Said She Said" was released as the second. In 2008, a third single, "Not Like That" was released in European countries and Brazil, while a fourth single, "Suddenly" had a limited release in Germany and Brazil.

She reprised her role as Sharpay Evans in High School Musical 2. She also appeared on the soundtrack. Tisdale has a voice role in Disney Channel's Phineas and Ferb as Candace Flynn. She also voiced Camille Leon in Kim Possible. Tisdale received her first award at Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards UK as "Best TV Actress" for The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. In 2007, Tisdale released a music DVD, There's Something About Ashley, with a three-song trilogy comprising music videos and a documentary about the creation of Headstrong. The album was re-released in 2007 in a Holiday Edition.[20] The album was re-released again in a limited Deluxe Edition format in Germany.[21] The album was certified Gold in the U.S. for reaching 500,000 copies shipped,[3] and Billboard readers chose it as the sixth best album of the year.[22]

In 2008, Tisdale starred in the ABC Family Original Movie, Picture This. The movie was released on DVD in 2008. In addition, Tisdale was credited as one of the executive producers of the movie.[23] Tisdale reprised her role as Sharpay Evans in High School Musical 3: Senior Year and also sang songs on the the soundtrack. Tisdale sang the leading vocals in the song, "I Want It All", which received praises from Billboard. [24]

2009-present: Guilty Pleasure and other projects

Tisdale's second solo album, Guilty Pleasure is set to be released on June 16, 2009.[4] She started working on the album in early 2008 and in April of the same year, she stated she has recorded several songs for the album.[25] Tisdale also stated her album would include "more rock and edgier" music.[26] The album's first single, "It's Alright, It's OK" was released on April 14, 2009 in the United States in airplay and digital formats.[27]

Tisdale will appear in the 20th Century Fox's film, Aliens in the Attic (formely known as They Came from Upstairs) with Robert Hoffman and Carter Jenkins.[5] Tisdale portrays Bethany Pearson in the film. In 2009, she guest starred as Maddie Fitzpatrick on The Suite Life on Deck. Tisdale is also a producer,[28] she has a production company, Blondie Girl Productions and is working in two projects.[28] Tisdale also signed a deal with FremantleMedia to produce a reality show.[29] She also left Gersh Agency and joined Creative Artists Agency.[30] Tisdale has collaborated with Jessica Horowitz to create an animated series, After Midnight which is currently being shopped around for distribution.[31]

Music influences

Tisdale has a mezzo-soprano voice style.[1] Her music is predominantly considered teen pop, but has also included genres of dance-pop, ballads and contemporary R&B. She stated that she will move to a pop rock style for her second album, which is different from her usual genre. [26] Tisdale has co-written four songs on her debut album, which include "Not Like That" and "Suddenly".[32][33] She has also co-written several tracks on Guilty Pleasure.[34]

Her musical influences include Mariah Carey, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and many '80 songs.[1][35] In a AOL.com interview, Tisdale stated, "I’ve been a big fan of Pink ever since she started. I love Katy’s sense of humor and her pop/rock feel. I love Pat Benatar's music. I’m inspired by all these women when I’m going into the studio, but almost anything inspires me."[36]

Products and endorsement

In October 2007, Tisdale signed a promotional deal for the Eckō Red clothing brand in which she toured malls across the U.S. Tisdale functioned as spokesperson and performed in conjunction with fashion shows hosted at each mall.[37] In 2008, Tisdale teamed up with Huckleberry Toys to produce a limited edition of dolls modelled after herself. The dolls were manufactured by Huckleberry Toys and featured outfits from her music videos.[38] She also appeared in commercials for Toys "R" Us, T-Mobile, and appeared in one promotional campaign for Staples, Inc.'s "Geared 4 School" sweepstakes.[39][40] She was the face of Degree Girl in the United States and recorded multiple commercials to promote the product. She covered several popular '80s songs to promote the product.[41] In 2009, Tisdale signed a five-year contract with Italian clothes line, Puerco Espin to be their new face. [42]

Public image and personal life
Tisdale underwent a rhinoplasty procedure on November 30, 2007. According to Tisdale, this was done for health-related reasons and not out of a belief in plastic surgery; her "septum was 80 percent deviated" and she had "two small fractures on [her] nose", and this was interfering with her breathing. She spoke to People magazine about the surgery, saying that it was important to her to be honest with her fans.[43]

In January 2007, Blender magazine stated, "Tisdale has a gift. Not an angelic voice or a dazzling personality, but an even rarer commodity: millions of "pre-sold" tweens eager to buy her debut album!".[44] Tisdale was romantically involved with Jared Murillo until March 2009.[45] In March 2007, Tisdale told Blender she was drug and alcohol-free, and doesn't smoke and went on to add, "my mom really instilled confidence in me, so I'm not somebody who'd be under peer pressure".[46] She was ranked #10 in Maxim's 2008 Hot 100 list.[47] In June 2008, Tisdale was ranked at #94 on Forbes' Celebrity 100 list.[48] Tisdale has appeared on the magazine covers of Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Shape and several other magazines. Tisdale is cited several times in David Denby's book Snark. [49]

In 2007, she was named one of Teen People's "25 Hottest Stars Under 25."[12] Tisdale was ranked #6 in Forbes Hollywood's 10 Top-Paid Tweens list.[50] Tisdale earned $2.8 million from High School Musical 3.[51] In 2008, Tisdale was ranked #17 in the list of Forbes High Earners Under 30.
